We believe in taking good care of cashmere garments to ensure long-lasting durability. Contrary to what most people assume, cashmere is not delicate and fragile if handled adequately. You can wash cashmere at home, and it is safe to do so. However, read this guide thoroughly to get a clear idea of what to do and what you should avoid doing.

Always read the labels that come attached to your garment. It provides details about the cashmere. Pure cashmere and cashmere mixed with other fabrics have different washing procedures. Labels will specify either to hand wash or machine wash. Some even tell you to dry clean your cashmere garment. You can choose between those but never use fabric softeners on cashmere. They tend to damage the fabric.

How to Wash Cashmere fabrics

We highly recommend washing cashmere with hands. This simple and easy method is the best way of cleaning cashmere. Even washing cashmere with a hand wash setting on the washing machine is risky.
Here are easy steps you can follow.
  • Take lukewarm or cold water and add a mild detergent to it. Cleaning detergent designed to wash wool or silk is suitable. You can also use cashmere shampoo.
  • Roll the cashmere garment and soak it in the water we just prepared for few minutes. About five minutes later, rinse it.
  • Don't pull or twist the cashmere. It will stretch the fabric and render it unwearable. The best way to rinse is to roll the garment and gently squeeze it. Repeat till the cashmere looks clean.

How to Dry Cashmere fabrics?

Now the cashmere is clean. You perfectly removed all dust and dirt from the fabric. Now it's time to dry the cashmere. Why bother? Just toss it in the sun and let it dry, you say. That would be a sure way to ruin the garment.
These are some tips you need to remember.
  • Do not use hot air blowers or tumble dry. Air drying naturally is the way to go.
  • Keep the cashmere from strong heat sources. Heaters, radiators, or the sunlight will cause the fabric to degrade.
  • Do not hang the cashmere fabric on wires or lines. It will stretch the garment, rendering it unwearable.
Here is another simple instruction, this time on how to dry the cashmere.
  • Take a clean towel and spread the cashmere garment on top of it. You can place another towel on top of it, then start rolling the towels.
  • If you apply gentle pressure to it, the towels will absorb most of the water from cashmere. It will be almost dry.
  • Unroll the towels to get the garment. The best way to air dry cashmere garments is to lay them flat. You can put them on top of a towel or use drying racks if you have those.

How to Iron Cashmere fabrics?

Ironing the clothes gives them an excellent finish. However, using iron on the cashmere garments requires extreme caution. Generally, irons will cause the cashmere fabric to overheat and flatten the layers.

But we cannot leave the wrinkles and creases on the cashmere garments, especially the sweaters. The equipment for this task is the steaming iron. It uses the steam from the water to iron the garments.

Here is yet another easy-to-follow guide. With this, you can effortlessly iron your cashmere garments.
  • Take your steam iron and prepare it with an appropriate level of water.
  • Gently rest the cashmere garment and hover the steam iron over it. Do not push down on the fabric. Let the steam do its magic.
  • The garment is now ready, free of any creases.

Caring Tips for Cashmere

  • Use laundry mesh bags if you are using a washing machine to wash the cashmere garments. These will protect the delicate fabrics during the wash.
  • Protect cashmere from insects and always store it in racks with adequate airflow.
  • Match the clothing and textures. Wearing cashmere with rough-textured clothing or sharp items will result in additional wear and tear to the fabric.
  • Don't wear the same cashmere garment for a long time. We recommend some resting periods to ensure it will last longer.
  • We recommend gently washing cashmere garments at regular intervals even if the garment doesn't look much dirty.
  • The dust, dirt, and tiny unwanted particles will lay hidden after some wear. Cleaning is the best way to maintain proper cloth hygiene.

Stain Removal

Despite being careful, clothes get stained due to accidents. Normally, spillage of food items such as drinks or coffee results in stains. These are easy to remove. Sometimes it's caused by makeup and greasy substances.

With soft cashmere, it is easy to panic. You cannot scrub the stain, and using chemicals may be harmful to the fabric. There is a lot of stress. But no need to worry. Here is an easy guide on how you can remove the stains.
  • In case of general stains, wash the cashmere by soaking it in mild shampoo. The cashmere washing steps mentioned above will remove the stains.
  • In case of tea, coffee, drinks, or curry stains, use a soft sponge. Rub against the stain gently without scrubbing. It will wear off.
  • In case of a stain due to chocolate, first, remove the chocolate particles. You can use your fingers, a spoon, or a butter knife. The key is to be gentle. Then, soak it in lukewarm water with cleaning liquid.
  • Makeup and greasy substances are hard to remove. First, remove the excess particles. After it, soak the stain in lukewarm water with cleaning liquid.
  • If the stain contains greasy substances, use some baking soda. It won't damage the fabric, and the greasy stain should vanish in about 15 minutes.

Long-lasting Storage

Here are few tips you can follow to keep cashmere in pristine condition throughout the entire summer season in the storage.
  • Always store cashmere in a clean and relatively dry place. Ensure good airflow.
  • Avoid hanging the garments like sweaters. The hanger will cause the garment to spread unevenly by distorting the original shape.
  • Store the garments by folding them in the storage racks or wardrobes where there is no moisture.
  • Wash cashmere garments before setting them aside for storage. You can also keep them inside breathable bags for additional protection.
